Whitby Bus and Coach Operator

A well-established bus and coach operator in Whitby, North Yorkshire, had bought a plot of land close to their existing base – earmarked for a possible relocation, or to build a property to hold as an investment.

LGS Projects was contacted, and it quickly became clear the original thinking on the building wouldn’t work for this site. Built-up land with poor ground conditions meant a traditional structural steel frame wasn’t going to be cost effective. We re-designed the building to maximise the floor area while meeting all the relevant building regulations, and stayed involved through every stage that followed.

Our groundworkers and engineers designed the drainage, foundations (including an inspection pit and brake test pit suitable for buses and coaches), car park, forecourt and pathways.

Access around the site was tight, and the weather during the build was against us throughout, with heavy rain, flooding and high winds.

Our bespoke cold rolled steel frames are ideal in this kind of environment – needing far less groundworks, and with no heavy plant or cranes required, we were able to work within the restricted space. We also fitted Tata insulated composite cladding, three-phase electric roller doors, and steel multipoint locking PA and fire escape doors.

The result is a superb facility, bringing redundant land into use and creating opportunities for employment and further investment in the area.

LGS Projects were excellent throughout the process, from the very early design stages through to completion. We had a number of challenges, and other advisers let me down, but Mark and his team were always professional, knowledgeable and ready to go the extra mile to ensure I was happy. The result is a wonderful building. I would highly recommend speaking to LGS as early as possible to anyone starting out on a project like ours.
